Many parents know that toddlers develop at different rates. Truthfully, I oftentimes felt unsure as to what I should be doing with my toddlers to help them reach their developmental milestones. Checklists gave me ideasđź’ˇon what I could be working on with my toddlers at home, in a fun and engaging environment. Here are some suggestions for what you can try out with your 2 year old toddler. Remember, you are your toddler’s best (and favorite) teacherđź’•
Stairs, please
Go up and down stairs with your toddler. Let them hold onto a handrail or your hand.
1,2,3 JUMP
Jump together. When they jump forward, do they take off and land with 2 feet?
Kickball
Grab a ball. Kick it toward them. Do they attempt to kick the ball?
Point and speak
Point to basic body parts and familiar clothing items. Ask them to tell you what they are.
Enjoy a book
Encourage them to point to pictures in book when named.
Listen
Do they use 1-2 word questions such as, ‘What’s that?’, ‘Go bye-bye?’
And listen some more
Do they puts 2-4 words together such as, ‘mommy book’, or ‘more cookie please?’
Create a necklace
Strings large beads onto a shoelace together.
Have a tower building competition
Can they stack 6 blocks into a tower?
Have fun with pop beads
Have them connect them and then take them apart.
