Musical Instruments for 1 Year Old Toddlers
You’ll probably have the urge to grab all the musical instruments for toddlers in sight, once you realize that music activities can help your toddler develop language, motor, and cognitive skills! Our friends at Zero to Three remind us that musical activities help toddlers experience self-esteem, self-confidence and self-efficacy. Toddlers develop a sense that they are smart and competent when they can make an impact on their world. Think of toddlers’ careful attention as they tap on a xylophone to hear it chime.
A University of California at Irvine study showed that 3- and 4-year-olds who took piano lessons performed better on tests that measured their spatial-temporal reasoning (ability to to think in space and time) than those who didn’t. Turns out, at age 3, brain circuits for music training begin to mature.
Watch your toddler as they dive into the world of music and reap the benefits of bonding through musical play.

I’m all for musical instruments for toddlers and continuing in their later years with music lessons.
Yes…music is such a wonderful gift. I’ve always admired the people in hotel lobbies and airports who sit down at a piano and create beautiful melodies.
This is such a useful post! Instruments are great for development. We got a guitar for my daughter recently and she loves it. Thank you for sharing x
A guitar! How lovely!! She is going to be the coolest kid around!! xx
We have pretty much all of these! Our little one is nearly three and she’s very musical.
You’re awesome!! I’m so happy to hear of your daughter’s talents!! Thank you for reading!
What a great post! My husband is skilled in music and we are definitely making it a point to introduce our daughter to various instruments. I noticed you included a link that redirects to musical instruments for 4-8 month old babies, so I will definitely be checking that out. Thank you for sharing!
You’re most welcome! Many cities with an orchestra have an event a few times a year where babies/toddlers can check out the instruments (and touch everything!). Definitely check to see if that is something your town offers!
