5 Ways to Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Toddlers

Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Toddlers

Are you running out of ideas on how to celebrate New Year’s Eve with toddlers? While New Year’s Eve is a wonderful time to spend with friends and family, it’s easy to forget to include the little ones in the celebration🎉. There are quite a few ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve with toddlers. Although they can’t drink alcohol, you can swap out the drinks with sparkling grape juice for your older kids. And don’t forget the party hats and noise makers!

Children ages five and younger are often sent to bed before the big ball drop. Maybe this year you’d like to include your child in the big celebration? Below are some ways you can have fun and party with your little one as you both count down to the upcoming new year.

1. Blow Some Bubbles

Blowing bubbles is fairly harmless and affordable for most. Your little one will adore watching soap soar inside (or outside) your home!

For a twist, why not make your own bubbles? It’s a great way to bond and it doesn’t take a whole lot of time to make.  You will need the following ingredients:

  • Liquid dish soap
  • Water
  • Corn Syrup (the light stuff)
  • Bottle to store the bubble solution once made
  • Pipe cleaners (you’ll want the 12″ ones; colors are whatever you would prefer)
  • Tape
  • Straws

To create the bubble solution you will need:

  • 21/2 C Water
  • 1/2 C Corn Syrup (the light stuff)
  • 1/2 C Dish Liquid

Heat the water until hot. Whisk in 1/2 cup corn syrup until it has been completely dissolved. Slowly add in the 1/2 cup liquid dish soap. Be sure to whisk well. Next, pour the bubble solution into a bottle or a container with a lid (or several jars for multiple children). For best results, allow the solution to rest for a few hours.

The straws can be turned into bubble blowers. To make, simply line the straws up evenly and wrap with tape to hold together. If you want to use bubble wands instead of the blower, take pipe cleaners and bend into desired shapes (a star, a circle, a heart, etc.) and wrap the extra wire around the straight portion (the “stick” end) to hold the shape in place.

The ideal place to practice the best bubbles (or the biggest!) is outside. If the weather is ideal, take the party outdoors. If not, be careful not to blow bubbles on upholstery or wooden furniture as they could leave a sticky residue behind whatever they land on.

2. Make Some Noise

Noise makers aren’t just for adults! So grab your party hats and start celebrating! Noise makers are super cheap and are usually sold in local party stores. They come in multipacks so remember to invite all of your friends and family too. When you celebrate New Year’s Eve with toddlers, it means everyone can join the party!

3. Craft Some Party Hats

You can make your own party hats. Paper is easier for younger children, but you may have to help make the cone shape in order to be sure it fits correctly. Get creative with crayons, markers, or colored pencils! You can add in stencils and glitter or glitter glue for something fancier. Draw on your New Year’s resolutions or simply make some party designs (balloons, flowers, fireworks, etc.). Your budding artist won’t mind refining his or her hand/eye coordination for a fun project like this one! What a great way to celebrate New Year’s Eve with toddlers.

4. Share a Toast with Sparkling Juice

Obviously children can’t partake in alcoholic beverages🍾, but they can have sparkling juice! Share a toast as the ball drops at midnight (or at bedtime) to celebrate! Talk about the hopes and dreams you have for each other with the coming of the new year. Share ideas for resolutions you actually intend to keep this year! Your child (or children) will appreciate being able to share their input with you.

5. Watch the Ball Drop Together

If you don’t have time to do anything else, at least make time to watch the ball drop as the year rolls over into a new one. Sharing in lasting memories is what brings friends and family closer together. So sit back, turn on the TV (or smartphone, tablet, computer, or whatever you choose to use) and sit back and enjoy the countdown with your favorite little one snuggled up beside you. You’ve found the perfect way to celebrate New Year’s Eve with toddlers. The best is yet to come.
